News Peruser 4.0 uses Gtk+ to create its X-interface. You must have version
Gtk+ 1.2.0, or later, installed on your system. Gtk+ can be retrieved from the
Gtk+ website: http://www.gtk.org

To compile the Peruser source, in the toplevel distribution directory type:

   configure; 
   
If configuration is succesful, type:

   make

to build the programs.

To put the binaries in /usr/local/bin type:

   make install

For help on changing build options, type:
   
   configure --help

If you ran alpha versions of Peruser 4.0, you may now safely remove the
/usr/local/libexec/peruser directory and its contents from your system.  
Those files are not kept in /usr/local/share/news-peruser.

To run News Peruser, type "peruser" at a shell prompt.

Peruser comes with a simple button bar program launcher, nplauncher, which is
used to launch external helper programs. A perl module, written in Perl, which
allows simplified access to the Peruser spool files, is included, along with
sample scripts to do MIME-decoding/encoding. These scripts require you to have
Frank Pilhofer's UUDeview decoding program installed, which may be retrieved
from here:
